22 Jan (Friday)

I visited SST, feeling nervous. There, I met SST buddy named 'Roy'. I thought it was hard for me to talk with foreigner. But Roy spoke slowly and nicely, so that I could communicate with him. Talking about differences of weather was quite enjoyable. Cultural differences made us talk about lots of things, too. We toured SST campus, which was nice. I even looked at what Roy made, the part of city. Then, we moved to physics lab and made our own bridge. It was amazing because we did design, then choose it, and make it. We had a lunch time, too. After that, we went to URA. But we had to say goodbye because Roy had a thing to do. After saying goodbye, I saw Singapore's city plan at URA. I had sweet dreams in hotel. :)

At Singapore Science Center
There were a lot of scientific experiments. It was simple but important. Also, I loved the class 'DNA in Forensic Science' because of its story was really interesting.

At Marina Barrage
The technology that makes sea water into fresh water was awesome. And the sea was beautiful that I was going to dive.

At SUTD
I loved the library most, but the curriculum was amazing, too. I wish SST and SUTD will be the most popular school in Singapore.

The Time With SST Buddies

The day after arriving at Changii International Airport, we went to School of Science and Technology after breakfast. After saying nice to meet you to my buddy, Sean Koh, we set Wi-Fi connection and sign-up to the team blog that SST already made for the international exchange program with us. Although I’ve been owning my personal blog written in Korean, it was hard for me to sign-up and upload a post cause its system is quite different with Korean blog service. As Sean and me finished sign-up to blog very quickly, we had some time to talk each other.

After signing up, we had time to tour SST. the experiment rooms and Carft Classrooms are not that different comparing with them in BSS. The fact that everyone in SST can use facility in Craft room include 3D Printer. We also have 3D Printers but, my school only gives chance to use them to few students. Although I am one of the student who have rights to use 3D Printer whenever I want, I hope everyone in BSS have oppertunity to use 3D Printers and other facility in Fab lab without any interference.

After that, we attended physics class with buddies. Not a lecture, but a fun activity that building a bridge. We design and simulate our own bridge with computer, configure the best bridge in the group by using Criteria, and finally make it. Criteria is a way to make a decision considering how much priority each factor has. I believe that Criteria is one of the best way to decide the best one among various selection

Bridge Design Competition

The next day, we visited Singapore Science Center and did an experiment named DNA in Forensic Science. we learned about how DNA gives clues that help detective to certain criminal. But, I didn’t feel huge impression because all the BSS student already learned and did the exactly same experience during biology class.

DNA in Forensic Science

We started working on bridge at Sunday night. As meaningless decoration make bridge more heavier and could make bridge more weaker, we cut off all the decoration we designed. On Monday, we went back to SST and tested how much weight our bridge can stand. Our bridge that focused on the basic function of bridge stand more then 170 times of itself’s weight. Simple is the Best!

Testing the Bridge

After presentation, Gift sharing, CCA, The time for farewell dinner was come. After farewell dinner, we should go to airport and go back to Korea. Although we said goodbye to each other, part in today do not mean the end. Therefore, I believe that we will going to have opportunities to meet each other again.

I took several photos of buddies

Seo Sunghee

From 2016.1.21 to 2016.1.26, I had really great experience in Singapore!

 1. SST
When I arrived SST, teachers and students include my buddy welcomed me. We walked around the SST. It looks big and eco-friendly. I liked SST. We had the class together, building strong bridge with the sticks. I think our bridge is the strongest. It was really fun. Also we had lunch. It was delicious. Spending time with my buddy was very interesting experience that I've ever had.

 2. URA gallery
We went to URA gallery. There was Singapore city's history and development process. With the Singapore's model, I can know the important places in Singapore easily. Thanks for my buddy. She explained to me so well.

 3. Singapore Science Center
There were many interesting things in there. I enjoyed kinetic garden, optical illusion, many physical instruments and so on. We also had the class 'DNA in Forensic Science'. We did gel electrophoresis. It was fun.

 4. Marina Barrage
It was interesting to see the barrage and opened sea's color difference. I can learned the barrage's function easily with many models. When I went up, the view was wonderful.

 5. SUTD
It is the university that built recently. The building was beautiful. If it has long history and many outcome, I think this university will advance in short time.

The time in Singapore was so valuable to me. I enjoyed this travel. Thank you SST!

Youngbin Lee - My Experience

I was looking forward to go to Singapore as I got an announcement of the exchange program. I could not sleep before I leave Korea. Through the  exchange program I could make friends with SST students and learned about Singapore. I felt excited making friends from overseas.  It was wonderful experience to me.
And I feel thankful to my buddies and teachers who give me awesome memories.

Day 1
We arrived Singapore in the evening welcomed by warm atmosphere. With expectation I could not sleep at night though I was tired.

Day 2
We finally went to SST and looked around the school with my buddies. The school was wider than ours and there were many interesting things. The most interesting part were the 3D printer works.
We got a physics class with buddies. We designed bridge with a program and made it with ice cream sticks.
After that we went to URA gallery. It showed the Singapore's History and City plans. I wish our country have one that too. Through the gallery I could see that how Singapore government is trying to make Singapore the good place to live.
We said good bye to our buddies after visiting URA. And we went to China town. There were many interesting stuffs in the market. But unfortunately we could not look around much because of the rain.

Day 3
First we went to Science Center and do some experiments like Agarose Gel Electrophoresis. I've done this before it was easy a bit. But it was fun to do with my friends and buddies. The interesting thing was in Korea, we only do an experiment in the class. But in the class in Science Center, the teacher told a real crime scene and related the experiments with real life. It was fresh experience for me.  Finishing the experiment we looked around the exhibition. The most interesting thing was the bird simulation. I thought I was flying except pushing the wings are quite hard.

Gel Singapore - Taekyoung's Reflection

 Gel Electrophoresis at Singapore

A couple months ago, our school made an announcement that we would be sending students to Singapore for an exchange program. I immediately signed up, considering that this opportunity was too good to miss. And several weeks later, I was heading to the airport with the rest of the students to catch a flight to Singapore.
When we stepped out of Changi Airport after the 6 hour flight, we were surprised by how hot it was outside. It was sort of weird, because contrary to the winter weather in Busan, it was hot outside and cold inside, which was weird at first.

One of the best parts about the trip was agarose gel electrophoresis. It was an experiment done at our school's open lab and during biology class. The goal of the experiment was to find out if a suspect's DNA was left on the crime scene. Forensic science is definitely something I'm interested in, so it was really fun doing the experiment with our buddies.

1. URA City Gallery
When you look at the overall view of Singapore city from the top of skypark, or Singapore flyer, you can easily recognize that the skyline is well organized. All of these buildings were carefullly planned by URA, and additional construction was still on the way.

2. Science Centre Singapore
In this centre, I had an opportunity to take class with my buddies. Class was about electrophoresis which is quite familiar to all of BSS students.  However, lesson was conducted in a concept of solving O.J Simpson's case and therefore interesting. Also, I loved how our instructor teached us with nice sense of humor.

3. Marina Barrage
In spite of heavy rainfall, Singapore has risk of water shortage due to its deprivation of area to store water. Marina Barrage is one of the 17 resorvior of Singapore, and it is unique in the way that its the only one located in the city. Going through the tour, we learned about four ways to get water-1. Storing 2. Desalination of seawater 3.New water(Recycled water), and 4.Imported water.
Awesome view of Singapore flyer and Marina Bay from the rooftop of building was also impressive.

4. SUTD
The fact that SUTD was build in collaboration with MIT made me excited even before the visit. Concentrated classes related to real life was also impressive.

5. SST
Nice friends, fun classes, exciting atmosphere!
